Munshiganj Awami League leader dies in hospital custody

An Awami League leader of Munshiganj Sadar upazila unit died early Sunday while in custody.
Sarwar Hossain Nannu, 60, joint general secretary of AL’s Munshiganj Sadar upazila unit, was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital around 3:30am after he complained of chest pain but was declared dead by 4:00am, according to jail officials.
Ataur Rahman, a doctor of the hospital’s emergency unit, said that Nannu suffered a heart attack and died within minutes of arrival. ‘We tried our best, but he passed away before admission.’
Nannu had been in Munshiganj District Jail since May 5 since his arrest in a political case.
