BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused vested interests of orchestrating a meticulously planned propaganda and misinformation campaign aimed at dismantling the nationalist force and discrediting its acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
“One thing to remember is that behind the propaganda and misinformation being spread now, there is a very specific conspiracy. That conspiracy is to destroy the nationalist force in Bangladesh,” he said while speaking at a book launching function at a city hotel on Sunday.
“A plot is also being hatched to eliminate Tarique Rahman, a leader who is emerging and has potential, and to try to put him in a bad position,” Fakhrul added.
He underscored the severity of the situation, stating, “The most alarming part is that, for the first time, our leader Tarique Rahman has been directly targeted by name. There is an effort to defame him and harm his reputation by spreading many things. This is extremely alarming.”
The BNP leader said their party cannot be blown up easily, as it has proved time and again that it can rise from the ashes.
He claimed that the BNP is currently facing a serious, dangerous and well-planned cyber-attack from all sides, designed to undermine and discredit the party.
Mirza Fakhrul underscored that the party’s young leaders and activists must be properly educated. “They need to truly understand and embrace BNP’s political ideology. Without this, they will not be able to find their rightful place in politics.”
He urged nationalist cyber activists to be more active in the digital space by involving more young people and promoting a merit-based political practice in the cyber world.
The BNP leader said there is no alternative to fighting with intelligence and merit.
He said Tarique Rahman has his own qualities. “I have seen that he has extraordinary organisational skills. Very few politicians have this. This is extraordinary. He can organise a huge section in a very short time, and he can organise it because he has reached the very wards in the villages of Bangladesh in a short time,” he added.
The BNP secretary general said the party has a huge youth community — students, youths — and they need to be organised. “We need to try to instil BNP politics into their minds.”
The event was chaired by BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabihullah and moderated by Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul.
Economist Prof Mahbub Ullah, Dhaka University teacher Prof Morshed Hasan Khan, political analyst Dr Zahid Ur Rahman, BNP acting chairman’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, Bangladesh Medical University’s Faculty of Dental Medicine Dean Associate Professor Sakhawat Hossain Sayanth, as well as online activists and bloggers of BNP ideology, also spoke at the programme.
