The government is working to complete the repair works for all the damaged roads of the capital by October, said Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Monday.

The environment ministry is also cooperating with the road transport ministry to gradually remove all the outdated public buses, and replace these with 250 new buses, the adviser told reporters after a meeting with a Chinese delegation at the Secretariat.

In the meeting, a Chinese specialist team shared their experiences with Rizwana on controlling air pollution.

The government will work with Chinese specialists to apply their experience on improving air quality in Bangladesh, she said after the meeting.

The government is preparing short-, medium- and long-term plans for preventing air pollution, she said.

To this end, the areas around the capital will be declared “no brick field zone,” she informed reporters, without specifying when the declaration would be made.
