Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Tuesday administered the oath of newly appointed Appellate Division judges, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub.

The oath-taking ceremony, conducted by Supreme Court registrar general Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, was held at 10:30am in the Judges’ Lounge. Judges from both the Appellate and High Court Divisions were present at the event.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, the senior-most High Court judge, and Justice Farah Mahbub, the fourth in seniority, to the Appellate Division on Monday.

With these appointments, the Appellate Division now has seven judges. Justice Farah Mahbub also makes history as the country’s fifth woman to serve on the top court’s bench.

Attorney general Md Asaduzzaman told New Age that these were the first appointments made under the newly formed seven-member Supreme Judicial Appointment Council, established on February 18 under the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance 2025.
