The Dhaka metropolitan police on Thursday imposed a ban on all types of gatherings, rallies and processions in and around the Secretariat, the chief adviser’s official residence Jamuna, and key surrounding areas.
The DMP in a public notice stated that the decision was made in the interest of maintaining public order, effective from Thursday until further notice.
According to the notice, the prohibition also applied to areas, including the Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Shahbagh intersection, Kakrail intersection, and Minto Road.
DMP commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali signed the notice.
The decision came two days after the police clashed with anti-rape protesters in front of the InterContinental Hotel.
