At least five people were killed and several others sustained bullet wounds in clashes among demonstrators, activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and police in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur on Tuesday as protests flared up across the country demanding reformation in the quota system in government jobs.
Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in the capital and elsewhere blocking highways and busy thoroughfares to press home their demand.
