At least five people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mahananda area under Daudkandi upazila in Cumilla district Sunday morning.

The identity of the victims, all passengers of the auto-rickshaw, could not be known immediately.

The injured ones – Sadia, 20, and Sharif, 5, of Angaura area under Daudkandi upazila – were rushed to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, said Daudkandi Police Station officer-in-charge Mojammel Haque.

He said that the accident took place on Dhaka-Amirabad-Kachua Road at about 10:00am on Sunday.

All the bodies were kept at Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, he said.

Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex officials said that the injured ones were sent to Dhaka after giving primary treatment as their condition deteriorated.
