Four people, including three of a family, were crushed to death under the wheels of a train in Baubazar Kundopukur Rail Station area of Nilphamari on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamim Hossain, 30, Lima Akter, 8, her sister Tarmina Akter, 6, and their brother Mominur Rahman, 4.

The three siblings were playing on the rail tracks near their home when a Chilahati-bound train from Khulna ran them over, killing them on the spot, locals said.

Shamim attempted to save the children and was severely injured. He was declared dead after he was taken to a hospital, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saidpur GRP Police Station Abdur Rahman Biswas.

Police recovered the bodies from the spot, he said.
