Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar on Tuesday called for improved traffic management, strict action against unskilled drivers, and a ban on unfit vehicles following a bus-truck collision that killed 14 people and injured at least 30 in Bonpara, Natore.
In a statement, Parwar expressed deep concern and sorrow over the accident, which occurred on the Natore–Pabna highway at around 5:00am on Tuesday.
He offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Parwar urged the government and relevant authorities to ensure advanced medical treatment for the injured and provide financial assistance to the affected families.
He said serious road accidents continued to occur across the country because of major flaws in traffic management on highways and arterial roads.
He called for decisive measures to prevent unskilled drivers from operating vehicles, stop unfit vehicles from plying the roads, and dismantle road transport syndicates to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.
